Job Purpose

A Carpenter Foreman performs journeyman level work in rough and finish carpentry in alteration and construction of buildings, cabinets, specialty wood items and general remodeling. The Carpenter Foreman supervises and coordinates the work of multiple crews of workers. Additionally, Carpenter Foreman is responsible for seeing that the Carpenter Supervisors and workers under them do their job skillfully and efficiently, and that assigned work progresses on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Manage one to multiple jobs in their entirety from start to finish.
• Review project plan and estimate time, material, equipment and supplies needed.
• Review and complete ‘Job Folder’ check list.
• Direct and assign individuals to job task.
• Inspect work areas to insure job is being completed as specified.
• Insure safety measures and procedures are implemented and followed.
• Insure work areas are properly maintained.
• Insure customer property is protected and safeguarded from damage.
• Negotiate and handle difficult customer situations and employee matters.
• Evaluate staff performance and assist operations manager in performance reviews.
• Train and develop staff at jobsite.
• Train and develop Carpenter Supervisors.
• Insure staff compliance to company policy/employee guidelines.
• Review and confirm staffs time sheets.
• Monitor inventory, request supplies, materials and equipment.
• Maintain and manage company vehicles and its content.

Education and Training

To become a Carpenter Foreman one must demonstrate proficiency as a Carpenter Supervisor and as a craftsman must illustrate an above average knowledge of all facets of a particular trade and do noticeably good work consistently. A Carpenter Foreman should have the same basic aptitude and interests as those working in the craft being supervised, plus additional reading, writing, and math skills. The ability to motivate workers and communicate with them and superiors is essential. A Carpenter Foreman must often lead by example and gain the respect of employees. Typically a Carpenter Foreman has a minimum of 5-8 years in the trade.

Being an entry level/first line management position, a Carpenter Foreman who exhibits solid rapport and communicates with his or her workers and superiors, who leads by example, who has outstanding skills and trade knowledge, who gets the job done properly and on schedule, and who works to improve his/her management skills will often be in line for promotion.

Pay Scale

Range is $22-$28/hr
